Metric: “Gimme Sympathy”

From the propulsive guitars to the dizzying synthesizers to the undeniable performance of front-woman Emily Haines, everything about “Gimme Sympathy” promises to launch Metric into the stratosphere. In this single shot video, the camera keeps circling the Toronto quartet as the former members of Broken Social Scene change places and instruments several times. First we see Haines on the microphone; seconds later, she’s wearing different clothing and playing the drums as guitarist James Shaw sings in her place. Gloriously, winged children stream through the concert hall during the last chorus, bust open the doors, and let the daylight in.
